Two team members chat about playing in Minnesota

This week, Team Wisconsin will defend its CCM Minnesota NIT championship, competing in preliminary round games on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

WiPH got a chance to chat with a couple of players on the team--Eau Claire Memorial's Hunter Scott and Wausau West's Robbie Poirier.

It is a great honor to be chosen for this squad, and the top players will be closely scrutinized by junior, college, and NHL scouts and coaches while participating in Plymouth this week.

"It means a lot, never having made a TW team in the past," said Scott. "It's an awesome opportunity and I'm pretty excited about it."

"It feels pretty great because the hard work that I and every other player has put in has really paid off," stated Poirier.

Each player will have high school teammates playing on the TW squad: Scott has EC Memorial members Saxton Soley and Alexander Dahl joining him, while Poirier has Wausau West buddy Garret Clemment on the team with him.

Scott appreciates having his comrades joining him in Minnesota.

"It's great. They're both good friends of mine and it's pretty nice to be able to play with them one last time."

Poirier has similar feelings.

"Being with Garret is great because we are great friends on and off the ice. So to be with him, I feel very much at ease."

When asked what style of play he expects to see, Scott knows the pace will be very fast.

"It will be very fast-paced with a lot of skill players there. If there's a chance to score, more likely than not it will be a goal."

What will it take to win?

"We're going to need to work as hard as possible, finish every hit, and capitalize on every opportunity," said Scott.

TW's opportunities will begin on Thursday.
