SATURDAY
WEHL Madison was in good shape early in the game, and went into the second period tied 1-1 on the strength of a Chris Beglinger goal, but couldn't answer two second period power play goals by the Ice Dogs and as a result dropped a 4-1 decision in the quarterfinal round.
The Ice Dogs added an empty-netter with just over a minute left to seal the win.
WEHL Madison won all three pool play contests to advance to the Saturday round of games.
Alex Neuenschwander and Neil McMillan had assists for WEHL Madison.
Tyler Stensaas stopped 33 of 36 shots in the game, which saw the Ice Dogs hold a 37-21 shot edge in gaining the victory.
FRIDAY
It took 56 minutes and a shootout, but WEHL Madison pulled out an exciting 6-5 victory over Illinois' Northern Express to advance to Saturday's quarterfinal round.
Northern Express held a 2-0 lead in the second period, but Ryan Moore and Evan Janssen scored in a span of 4:36 in the middle of the period to tie the contest at two.
The Express went ahead 3-2, but Alex Neuenschwander scored to knot the game late in the period.
Eric Zwaska scored just 37 seconds into the third to give Madison a 4-3 lead, which they held for nearly seven minutes.
Then Express scored twice in three minutes in the middle of the period to take a 5-4 lead.
Defenseman Dylan Zink tied the game with just 31 seconds left to send the game into OT.
After a scoreless five minute overtime, Madison won in a shootout.
Zach Woodman (Beloit) stopped 25 of 30 shots in the win. Madison outshot the Express 44-30 in the game.

THURSDAY
WEHL Madison scored their second straight win with a 7-0 shutout over the Littleton Hawks. The Madison team scored four times in the second period en route to the easy victory.
Taylor Brown (Madison Edgewood) scored twice, while Eric Howell (Stoughton) scored once and added three assists. Connor Johnston (Monona Grove) tallied a goal and two helpers in the win.
Tyler Stensaas (Oregon) made 17 saves in the shutout effort.
WEHL Madison outshot their foes 44-17.
WEDNESDAY
The WEHL Madison U18 squad got goals from eight different players, including Carl Beglinger's one goal, two assist performance in blowing past New Jersey's Hollydell Hurricanes 8-5.
Zach Woodman (Beloit) was in net for WEHL Madison and stopped 44 shots. The Hurricanes held a huge 49-23 shot edge in the contest.
FRIDAY
After a slow start, WEHL NE held a 3-1 lead with just over thirteen minutes to go, only to see the Thunder score three goals--including two power play goals--in the last twelve minutes and steal a 4-3 victory from the Badger State boys.
Tyler Hermes and Nick Monfils each had goals for NE. (The third goal scorer was not identified.)
Ross Kulick stopped 27 of 31 shots for NE, who will not advance into the quarterfinal round.
THURSDAY
WEHL NE lost a heartbreaking 4-3 decision against the Igloo Jaguars on the second day of action at Nationals.
NE held a 3-1 lead on goals from Hunter Routheau, Will Pavek, and Austin Eiler with 95 seconds left to play in the second period.
The Jaguars got a short-handed goal at that point to cut the lead to 3-2 going into the final stanza.
All looked well until the Jags scored two power play goals in the last 4:18 for a 4-3 lead. Goalie Eli Hicks came off for an extra attacker, but WEHL NE was unable to tally the equalizer.
Hicks had 13 saves, as NE outshot the Jags by a 32-17 margin.
WEDNESDAY
The team got off to a bumpy start, losing 4-1 to the Northwest Chargers of Illinois. For NE, Michael Wilson (Fond du Lac) scored the only goal.
DePere's Ross Kulick stopped 31 of 35 shots in the game.
