For Ty Steffes, getting to the big dance was the goal for the Fond du Lac Springs head coach.

Although his team did not make it, he did, and was awarded the Bob Johnson Coach of the Year by the WHCA members Wednesday night at the state tournament/Player of the Year banquet.

Steffes led the Ledgers to a 20-5 mark this season and took home a Badgerland Conference championship--their first.

Gary Shuchuk has done many things in hockey and for the betterment of hockey in Wisconsin.

Wednesday evening, he was given the George Baumann Friend of Hockey award at the state tournament/Player of the Year banquet held at the Sheraton Madison Hotel.

Shuchuk--an Edmonton native--played at the UW and went on to spend five years in the NHL.

After his playing days, he went on to coach several youth groups, including Team Wisconsin, WEHL teams, and USA Hockey Select camps.

He is the former executive director of Madison Ice, Inc., where he oversaw daily operations of Madison Ice Arena and Hartmeyer Arena.

He is now currently an assistant for the Badgers.

The man that has given so much to hockey has now been given something in return.
