Both Wisconsin products selected in the fifth round

The 2017 NHL Draft took place over the weekend and a pair of Wisconsin players were drafted just eight picks apart in the fifth round.

The Arizona Coyotes grabbed defenseman Michael Karow with the 126th overall pick and a few moments later, the Los Angeles Kings picked blueliner Cole Hults with the 134th selection.

Karow spent the 2016-17 season with the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL. He tallied 24 points (5g-19a) in 63 games overall, including one goal and a pair of helpers in five playoff games. Karow spent 45 minutes in the sin bin while going +6 for the season.

In two seasons with Notre Dame Academy, Karow scored 33 points (10g-23a) in 49 games during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 campaigns for the Tritons.

The Green Bay native has committed to Boston College and will be an incoming player during the 2017-18 season for the Eagles.

Hults, a Stoughton native, played for the Madison Capitols of the USHL for the last three seasons. In 122 games overall, he notched six goals and 36 assists while amassing 206 penalty minutes. Last year, Hults scored 32 points (6g-26a) and spent 112 minutes in the box.

Hults played for Madison Edgewood his freshman season, scoring twice and adding 11 helpers for 13 points in 26 games for the Crusaders during the 2012-13 season.

He committed to Penn State and will join the Nittany Lions this fall.

A total of 49 American players were taken in this year's draft.
