In the previous game, Brett Skibba made the goals with help from Todd Koritzinsky. In their 5-1 victory over Notre Dame, Middleton's dynamic duo switched roles, with Koritzinsky scoring five points on three goals and two assists and Skibba earning a playmaker at the Cards advanced to the state tournament final with their semifinal win Friday at the Alliant Energy Center.

Middleton came out fast, scoring three times in the first nine minutes to set the Tritons back on their collective heels.

Koritzinsky scored on the power play at 2:03, with an assist to Skibba.

Erik Hurd got into the act and scored on the power play just 2:45 later with a shot from the right point. Koritzinsky got the assist.

Then Koritzinsky scored at 8:57 with his shot from the left circle to make it 3-0. The Cards held a 12-8 shot edge in the period.

Middleton scored the only goal in the second period and did it less than one minute into the period.

Preview

In a battle of #3 against #5 in the Wisconsin Prep Hockey Top Ten, the Notre Dame Academy Tritons are taking on the Middleton Cardinals in the first semifinal of the 2011 WIAA Boys High School Hockey State Tournament.

The Tritons come is as the co-Champions of the Fox River Classic Conference (24 points is tied with Ashwaubenon) and have won 12 games in a row going back to a 3-2 loss to Eau Claire Memorial on January 21st.

The Cardinals come in as the Champions of the Big Eight Conference. The Cardinals have won five in a row but lost in an upset to Sun Prairie 4-3 in the second to last game of the regular season.

They keys for this game will be Todd Koritzinsky and Brett Skibba of the Cardinals.  They should be the two fastest and most skilled players on the ice, but Notre Dame Academy has more depth than the Cardinals.

In the opener with Cedarburg Skibba had two power play goals in the 2-1 win. If Notre Dame can stay out of the box, and keep the Middleton power play off the ice, they should have a great chance of success.

Tim Davison anchors the Notre Dame defense and wracked up 38 points on the regular season.

Both goaltenders have put up fantastic seasons.  On the regular season Notre Dame's Chris Nell finished 7th in save percentage at .924 and third in goals against average at 1.40.

Smith of Middleton came in 6th in sv% at .928 and 7th in GAA at 1.85.

The teams have not met yet this season and played the two most exciting and draining overtime games.  Notre Dame opened the tournament with a 3-2, double overtime win over Marquette.

Middleton followed with a 2-1 win over Cedarburg. Middleton controlled the pace of play in that game, but Cedarburg took it to them in the final minutes and nearly forced overtime.

Today's battle will focus on Middleton's top-end speed vs. Notre Dame Academy's depth.
