Warriors advance to face #2 seed Madison Edgewood

After dropping a pair of regular season games to Monona Grove, Waunakee needed to find a new approach to matching up with the 10th ranked Silver Eagles at Hartmeyer Ice Arena.

The answer was not an 'easy button.' The answer was just easy. Bring a relentless forecheck, play stellar defense and play every shift like it's your last. And that's just what the Warriors did, stunning the Silver Eagles 7-2 to move on to Round 3 of the playoff next Tuesday night.

Senior defenseman David Smith broke the early stalemate with a slapper from the blue line at the 9:28 mark of the first period. Three minutes into the 2nd period, MG tied it up before the Warriors unleashed the dogs, scoring three times in about four minutes.

Senior Derek Straus' first of three goals was sandwiched by a goal each by junior defensemen Connor Scheffler and Chase Busch and gave Waunakee a 4-1 lead after two.

Junior goalie Mitch Horras turned away a stunning 19 MG shots in period two (33 for the game), and looked to keep the net behind him empty as the third period began. And his teammates did their part as well, as the Warriors continued to bring the heat to MG, amassing an amazing 8 points in the third period; Jason Ford (2 pts), Straus (3 pts) and Eric Behrend (2 pts) and Keegan Ford (1 pt).

As Packer radio voice Wayne Larivee says..."There's Your Dagger!"

As the #6 seed in the playoff section, the Warriors are half way through the playoff bracket to State. Madison Edgewood awaits Waunakee at Madison Ice Arena Tuesday night, and hasn't forgotten the beat down they took at the Ice Pond earlier this year. The winner advances to the Sectional Finals.
