The Warriors headed into the first round of the 2011 WIAA playoffs as a #6 seed in their Section 6 brackets. Could the Warriors playoff run resemble a certain pro football team who also carried a #6 seed into the playoffs, and ultimately a Super Bowl title? There's only one way to find out.

Drop the puck...it's playoff time!

The Eastside Lakers (5-14-2) had just shutout the Sun Prairie Cardinals and were looking to bring down the Warriors at the Ice Pond. Less than two minutes into the game, senior Eric Behrend put the visitors on notice that it wasn't going to be that kind of night.

With assists to linemates Jason Ford and Derek Straus, on both of Behrend's first period goals, it was apparent Waunakee was firmly in charge. Straus added a goal in between Behrend's two for a three point first period.

The second period saw more Warrior lamp-lighters from senior Kraymer Smith (Meske, Hepp), Straus (J.Ford, Keegan Ford), senior Chase Hellenbrand (A.Horras, Jay Croop), and Croop (Austin Braska). After 34 minutes it was all Waunakee 7-1.

Croop added a third period goal for his second of the night with an assist to sophomore Blake Anderson to make the final 8-1.

Junior goaltender Mitch Horras turned away 17 of 18 Laker shots, while Waunakee pounded the Laker net with 50 total shots on goal.

The Warriors travel to Hartmeyer Ice Arena on Friday for a third showdown with Monona Grove and a berth in the Sectional semi-finals.

One noteworthy item from the archives...with his three assists against the Lakers, junior forward Jason Ford becomes just the fifth Warrior skater to reach the 100 point mark for a career at Waunakee, Congrats to Jason and his teammates for helping #12 reach an awesome milestone!
