SMSA Undefeated in Badgerland 10-0

BEAVER DAM — The St. Mary's Springs hockey team finished its conference season undefeated with a shutout victory at Beaver Dam on Thursday.

Springs, 10-0 in the Badgerland, beat the Beavers, 7-0.

"It was a nice solid game, and we were able to play all of our players, which is nice," said Springs coach Ty Steffes. "At the end of the season we have to pare down to 20 players on the bench."

Springs (19-3 overall) got the game-winner at 2 minutes, 8 seconds into the first period when Tyler Grebe scored unassisted. Eric Steffes had two goals and two assists for the Ledgers, and J.P. Voight scored twice.

"It was nice to see him coming on," Steffes said about Voight.

Brendan Ahern and Matt Austin had the other two goals for Springs.

Goalie Willie Schlenske got the shutout.

Springs plays a nonconference game Saturday at 6:15 p.m. against Waukesha at the Blue Line Family Ice Center.

"(Schlenske is) a freshman goalie," Steffes said. "He had 14 saves and some of them were very, very good saves."
