Wisconsin teams win three of six on second day at Nationals

Friday

Boys Tier I (15 o): Yale Bulldogs 3, Team Wisconsin 2 (so)

TW tied the game at two midway through the third period, but then battled through a scoreless overtime before losing a heart-breaking shoot-out to the Yale Bulldogs Friday in Scottsdale.

Jake Schmaltz scored midway through the first to take a lead before the Bulldogs tallied twice early in the third to take a 2-1 lead.

Sam Stange scored on the power play in the middle of the period to tie the game that would go to overtime.

After no score in the extra period, the teams went to a shoot-out, which was won by the Bulldogs.

TW held a 42-22 shot edge, with Max Gutjahr stopping 20 shots for TW.

Boys Tier I (18U): Team Wisconsin 5, Sioux Falls Jr. Stampede 1

TW held a close 2-0 lead going into the third but scored three times in a span of eight minutes to run away with a 5-1 win Friday in Pittsburgh. 

Cole Caufield scored three times while Aaron Grounds and Dawson Schwengler added goals in the victory. Grounds, James Furey, and Brady Bjork pitched in with helpers for TW.

Sam Dunn stopped 15 shots as TW held a huge 52-16 shot margin.

Boys Tier II (16U): Armstrong Arrows 3, Milwaukee Kelly 1

Andrew Malek scored early in the first but that was it as the Arrows scored three in the second and held on for the 3-1 win Friday in Frisco, TX. The penalty-fest included 38 minutes of sin-bin time for the teams combined. 

MK outshot the Arrows 38-19, but struggled on the power play, going 0-for-9. Caleb Sauer stopped 16 shots in net for the WEHL squad.

Girls Tier I (16U): Pittsburgh Pens Elite 1, Team Wisconsin 0 (ot)

After opening overtime with a two-man advantage and failing to convert, the 16U Pittsburgh Pen Elite triumphed over Team Wisconsin 1-0. Kaitlyn O'Donohoe broke through for the Pens, pouncing on a loose puck in front of the net.

TW was outshot in the game, 35-20. Sydney McKersie stopped 34 shots for TW in a solid effort.

Girls Tier II (16U): Wisconsin Selects 4, Princeton Tiger Lillies 1

After falling behind by a goal, the WI Selects got four goals by four different players en route to a 4-1 win Friday in Troy, MI.

Hattie Verstegen, Taylor Epperson, Trinity Foster, and Michaela Fritz scored for the Selects in the win. Fritz, Epperson, Avrey Simonson, Kassidy Oliva, and Victoria Nelson had assists in the contest.

Shots were 25-16 in favor of the Selects, with Brooke Goehring stopping 15 shots in the win.

Girls Tier II (14U): Black Cats 5, Princeton Tiger Lillies 1

The Black Cats got balanced scoring in a 5-1 win Friday in Troy, MI.

Nikki Olund, Mallory Thompson, Lillian Accola, Jaden Woiwode, and Amber DeLong all scored in the contest. Amber and Abbie DeLong each had two assists, while Quinn Winkoski added a solo assist.

The 'Cats held a 32-18 shot edge, and once again Sydney Seeley (9) and Caitlyn Erickson (8) split time in net for the western Wisconsin club.
