CHIPPEWA FALLS — Kabang. Kabang. Kabang.
That sound’s heard all too often in Mitch and Lisa Steinmetz’s home.
Since he was 7 years old, the couple’s second-oldest son, Jordan, would spend hours upon hours in the basement — directly below the living room floor — shooting a puck into a makeshift net.
“You’d constantly hear the stick hitting the concrete,” Mitch Steinmetz said. “It was relentless.”
Jordan Steinmetz demands perfection in himself. And even more so, he demands winning at all costs. That’s why many winter nights — even after games — he’d retreat down below.
Some of his sessions would come after a loss. He’d do anything he could to get the losing taste out of his mouth. That’s just who he is as a person. He had to win the race to the dinner table. He had to be quickest to get in line at school.
“Jordan never wanted to lose,” Mitch Steinmetz said. “No matter what we were doing.”
Transition out of a home setting and into the high school hockey scene.
