First game of sectional finals moved to Thursday night

Sectional Finals overview

One final game to win in order to make it to Madison.  What do we have left:

3 - #1 Seeds
2 - #2 Seeds
2 - #3 Seeds
1 - #4 Seed

Only sectional one will feature a #1 and #2 seed playing against each other.  Sectional two will start a day earlier than originally planned due to the impending storm and ironically features the #1 Central Wisconsin Storm vs #3 Fox Cities Stars.  Sectional three will be the final girls sectional to take the ice on Saturday evening featuring two teams trying for their second trip to Madison.  While sectional four features the dark horse #4 University School Wildcats taking on #2 Bay Area Ice Bears.

Sectional One

#2 Hayward Hurricanes vs #1 Hudson Raiders
Location:  Chippewa Falls Ice Arena
When:  Friday, February 24 at 7:00 PM

How did they get here:
Hayward defeated Chippewa Falls 10-0. Hayward overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat ECA Stars 3-2.

Hudson defeated Western Wisconsin Stars 7-2.

History
Hayward is the defending state champions and have made 4 trips to Madison (2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016).  They have won the state title twice, 2013 and 2016.

Hudson has made it to Madison on 3 occasions (2002, 2003 and 2006).  They were state champions in 2002 and 2003.

Season:  The two teams played on December 9th in Hudson.  The Raiders won the game 5-2, while scoring 3 power play goals and an empty net goal with 20 seconds remaining.  Lauren Tremblay finished the game with 23 saves on 27 shots.  Cassie Schultz had 21 saves on 23 shots.

Sectional Two

#3 Fox Cities Stars vs #1 Central Wisconsin Storm
Location:  Greenheck Fieldhouse
When:  Thursday, February 23 at 7:00 PM

How did they get here:
Fox Cities defeated Waupaca 8-1.  They proceeded to win an overtime game 2-1 against Point-Rapids.

Central Wisconsin defeated Medford 13-0.  They won their game against Northland Pines 8-0.

History
Fox Cities is looking for their first trip to state

Central Wisconsin has made 9 consecutive trips to Madison (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016).  They have claimed 2 state titles (2008 and 2012).

Season:  This will be the first time they have met.

#3 Rock County Fury vs #1 Sun Prairie Cougars
Location:  Sun Prairie Ice Arena
When:  Saturday, February 25 at 7:00 PM

How did they get here:
Rock County posted a 6-0 win over Viroqua.  They followed that up with a 6-1 win over the Metro Lynx.

Sun Prairie downed the Stoughton Icebergs 8-0.  Onalaska fell to the Cougars 3-1.

History
Rock County made it to Madison for the first time last year.

Sun Prairie had made one appearance in Madison in 2011.

Season:  Rock County lost to Sun Prairie 2-1 on December 13th.  On January 31st, Sun Prairie won 4-1 on their home ice.

#4 University School Wildcats vs #2 Bay Area Ice Bears
Location:  Blue Line Family Ice Center
When:  Friday, February 24 at 5:30 PM

How did they get here:
University School defeated Lakeshore 7-0.  They upset #1 Fond du Lac 2-1.

Bay Area opened with a 7-1 win over Arrowhead.  They beat Appleton 5-0

History
University School has participated in the state tournament 4 times (2010, 2013, 2015 and 2016).  They brought home the gold in 2015.

Bay Area made the trip to Madison twice (2010 and 2014).  They were state champions in 2014.

Season:  Bay Area won both meetings via shutouts 2-0 and 3-0.
