Stange's OT winner gives North first win over Memorial in 11 years

First North win over Old Abes since February 2006

It’s a shot Zac Stange has practiced thousands of time in his life.

When he was a bantam player before he ever got a taste of what has been a one-sided city rivalry, coaches noticed his high-velocity shots from the point and knew there was something to work with. They would tell him “that’s the spot you will generate opportunities.” And that became his shot.

Fast forward to the waning seconds of overtime in the final regular season game the North captain would play against Memorial. He hadn’t beaten the Old Abes in eight tries, including the playoffs. But when the puck squirted along the boards and hit his stick at his spot on the blue line, he had one last chance to do something his school hadn’t since Feb. 24, 2006.

Of course he wasn’t going to miss it.
