12 different players score for Point in 12-0 shutout

Based on what was really important, the game between visiting Wisconsin Rapids and host Stevens Point was subordinate to a great cause that brought fans to the KB Willett Arena on a pleasant winter evening Thursday.

The 'Pink the Rink' game was played to help benefit the 'Hope is Building' campaign, which is raising funds to build a new breast care center at Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point, part of Ascension Wisconsin, bringing quality, innovative healthcare to the region.

After all the cash from raffle baskets, drawings, and t-shirt sales was added up, SPASH hockey donated a check for $5,226 to the Hope is Building campaign.

Not a bad night's work.

Speaking of work, on the rink the Panthers were all business, as in 'taking care of business,' as they blanked rival Rapids 12-0 in a game that was as lopsided as the score would indicate.

SPASH got first period goals from Treyton Zinda, Jacob Beilke, and Chase Miller as they finished the period with a 3-0 lead. Shots were 12-2 in favor of the home team.

The Panthers (16-2) tacked on a half-dozen scores in the middle frame and the game was in run-time mode midway through the stanza.

Barrett Brooks (2), Cole Caufield (2), Eli Haas, and Jake Minch all put the puck in the net to give the home squad a 9-0 lead heading into the final period. SPASH held a huge 21-1 shot lead.

The final period saw goals by Cole Beilke, Mark Stoskopf, and Haas as the Panthers rolled to an easy victory. Shots were 11-4 in the period, advantage Point.

Caufield also earned a playmaker in his five-point game, nudging his goal total to 42 and point total to 64, which both currently lead the state. Stoskopf chipped in a pair of assists for the Panthers.

Phil Trzebiatowski stopped all seven shots he faced for the win, while at the other end, Tanner Reany (19) and Alex Rawding (13) combined for 32 saves for Rapids, who dropped to 6-10-1 on the year.

NOTE:

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW Local 388) donated $100 per goal to the Hope is Building campaign. When the ice chips had settled, business manager Dean Miller and Local 388 chipped in $1,200 to the kitty, all for a very worthy cause.

Well done, ladies and gents!
