University School outlasted Notre Dame Academy to win a tight 2-1 game in Green Bay Saturday night.

The first period was scoreless. Both teams had chances, but the goaltenders stopped every shot taken.  Notre Dame sophomore Chris Nell made 5 saves, and USM senior Ben Myers made 9 saves in the period.

The Tritons kept attacking during the second period and out shot USM 11-8, but the Wildcats played tight defense, and Myers made the necessary saves to keep Notre Dame off the scoreboard in the period. When the Wildcats had the puck in the Notre Dame end, they hit hard, tiring the Tritons.

Eventually the Wildcats were able to score. Late in the second period on a power play, sophomore defenseman Joey Judge sent the puck from the point to senior James Shovers along the right mid-boards in the Notre Dame end.  Shovers skated with the puck out to blue line, circled around Judge, and curled into the high slot.  From there, Shovers cannoned a shot through a crowd in front and over Nell's shoulder at 14:49.

The Wildcats made it even tougher on their hosts by scoring another goal midway through the third period.  Breaking out of the USM zone, senior Simon Leahy sent a cross-ice pass to junior Corey Roadhouse.  Roadhouse skated down the right boards into the Notre Dame end.  He swung behind the Notre Dame goal and looked up ice. He passed the puck to the center of the blue line to senior Zach Hafeman.  Hafeman stepped into the slot and mortared a shot past Nell at 10:45.
The Wildcats then pulled the blinds over nearly every window of opportunity Notre Dame had.  USM survived a 5-on-3 Notre Dame power play as well as Notre Dame's furious attempts to score. The Wildcats tied up the Tritons’ sticks in front of Myers and cleared every rebound to keep the Tritons from second chances.

Late in the third period Notre Dame had another 5-on-3 power play. This time they made good on the situation.  In the USM end, Luke Davison sent the puck to his brother Tim at the point.  Tim Davison passed it in deep to Jason Reynolds near the goal line just off the left goal post.  Reynolds lofted a shot past Myers to make it 2-1 with only 1:43 left.

But it was too late for Notre Dame to score again, even after Notre Dame pulled Nell.  Myers and his fellow Wildcats withstood the last-minute onslaught, and the victory was USM's.

In the close game, both Myers and Nell made 31 saves.

The loss was only Notre Dame's second of the season. The Tritons are now 10-2.  USM improved its record to 7-5-2 with the victory.  The Wildcats return home to play Fond du Lac's St. Mary Springs at 7:00 Tuesday night.
