The Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine game of the week was played at the Appleton Family Ice Center with a Breast Cancer Awareness game. The #9 Metro Lynx traveled from Madison to play a team making a move towards the top ten in Appleton United.
The first period found both teams playing a tight game and moving the puck up. Metro Lynx's Kara Epping picked up a 2 minute minor for tripping at 12:27 of the period, but Appleton was unable to capitalize on the opportunity. Less than a minute after killing off the penalty, Kara Epping and Siera Petet assisted on a goal by Julia Dragoo giving the Lynx the lead with 1:35 left in the first.
The Lynx increases the lead to 2 at 2:23 of the second period, when Brooke Rockouski slipped one between the leg of Hoisington and the pipe. Sierra Berg assisted on the goal. Appleton United was able to cut the lead in half at the 6:09 mark with Madison Schultz putting one in just under the crossbar. The second period came to an end with Appleton United trailing 2-1.
Kara Epping bumped the lead back to 2 for the Lynx 29 seconds into the third period with an assist from McKenzie Imhoff. Imhoff and Dragoo assisted on Epping's goal with 59 seconds remaining in the game to seal the victory for the Lynx at 4-1.
Gwen Parker finished the game with 25 saves for the Lynx. Mckenzy Hoisington had 28 saves for Appleton.
The Metro Lynx will take on Viroqua in their next game on Saturday, January 7th, at Madison Ice Arena at 5:00 PM. The United's next game will be against the Central Wisconsin Storm on January 13th at the Appleton Family Ice Center at 5:30 PM.
