The SPASH Panthers scored five times in the first period on their way to a 7-0 victory over Wisconsin Valley Conference rival Wisconsin Rapids on a mild winter evening Tuesday night at the South Wood County Rec Center.
The Panthers got two goals from Treyton Zinda in the first eight minutes for an early 2-0 lead.
Barrett Brooks, Chase Miller, and Cole Caufield all scored in the second half of the period to make it 5-0. Shots were 12-8 in favor of SPASH.
Caufield scored a shorty late in the second to send the game to run time.
The Panthers outshot the home team 14-4 in the stanza.
The final period was a penalty-fest as seven infractions were assessed, with five for Point and two for Rapids. The only scoring was Jacob Beilke's power play goal with 2:06 left to give SPASH the 7-0 final. Shots were 6-5 in favor of Rapids in the final 17 minutes of play.
In the assist department, Jarrett Jones had a playmaker, while Jake Minch and Dayne Hoyord each helped out on a pair of goals for the Panthers, who improved to 9-1 with the victory.
Phil Trzebiatowski stopped 18 shots for his first shutout of the year, while Rapids goalie Tanner Reany ended with 24 saves as the Red Raiders dropped to 1-5-1 on the young season.
