Eight different players score goals in 8-2 win

On a night with stars twinkling in the sky and an air temperature that made one long for spring, the Fox Cities Stars shone brightly on the ice, blazing past Stevens Point Pacelli 8-2 Tuesday night at Ice Hawks Arena.

The tenth-ranked Stars outshot the hosts 52-10 in a contest that saw the guests score the first six goals, sending the game to run-time late in the middle period.

Seth Bishop and Noah Hablewitz each scored in the first, giving the Stars a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission. Shots were 19-2 in favor of the visitors.

Fox Cities (8-1) got tallies from Noah Krueger and Hunter Schwehr in the first four minutes of the second to give the guests a 4-0 lead. Hayes Martinez scored in the middle of the period and Jonathon Kwasny punched in a goal with 27 seconds left to make the score 6-0. Shots were 19-4 in the period, Stars.

The hosts took advantage of a power play in the middle of the third to cut the lead to 6-1. Daniel Mitch made a nice individual effort on the unassisted goal at 7:19.

The Stars got that goal back on a hard-working shift by Krueger. The senior battled behind the net in the left corner and stole the puck before skating out the opposite side along the boards out to the right point. He slid a pass over to the left point to Martinez, who sent it along to Gus Mantey for the score to make it 7-1.

Jeremiah DeValk scored with 1:44 left for the Stars and then Carter Snyder finished off the scoring for Pacelli on a nice 2-on-1 rush to account for the 8-2 final.

The Stars held a 14-4 shot edge over Pacelli, who dropped to 1-6-1.

Kwasny, Schwehr, and Martinez each had two assists in the win.

Stars goalie Mitch Kroll stopped eight shots in the win, while Cardinals goalie Trevin Milbauer finished with 44 saves.
