Top Ten: The top teams are starting to stabilize

Despite their 2-0 loss to New Ulm, MN, in the championship game of the Kiwanis Hockey Tournament in Rochester, MN, the Eau Claire Memorial Old Abes held on to the top spot in this week's Wisconsin Prep Hockey Top Ten poll.

The Old Abes picked up victories against International Falls, MN, and Rochester Lourdes, MN, by 4-0 and 2-0 scores on their way to the championship vs. New Ulm.

Second ranked Wausau West was out of action for the holiday week and gets back to it on Tuesday against Marshfield.  Coach Pete Susens of the Warriors is sitting on 499 career wins.

Ashwaubenon knocked off Manitowoc in a 10-0 blowout to retain the third spot on the poll and will be out of action this week.

Marquette won the Admirals Shootout at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee over the holiday week.  They opened with a 7-2 win over Germantown, and followed with a 4-1 win over Arrowhead, before knocking off USM in the finale 4-2.

Notre Dame Academy moved up to the #5 spot, from #6 last week.  The Tritons picked up four wins on the week, including the championship of the Joe Raymond Holiday Tournament.

The Tritons opened with a 7-1 win over Kettle Moraine/Mukwonago, and followed with a 7-2 win over the Waukesha Wings.  They took the championship 5-1 over Catholic Memorial/Pius XI.

They tacked on a game against Bay Port before the week was over, and took it 8-1.

The Superior Spartans followed the Tritons up the poll, moving into the #6 spot, from #7 last week.  The Spartans won the Duluth Marshall Holiday Tournament, giving Wisconsin three of the last four champions (Madison Edgewood in 2007, Appleton United in 2008).

Superior opened the tournament with a 5-2 win over Appleton United, and followed with a 3-0 win over Proctor, MN, to advance to the championship.  In the championship Superior edged Duluth Marshall 3-2 to take the title.

Stoughton dropped from #5 to #7 this week following a loss in the second round of the Rice Lake Holiday Tournament.  Stoughton opened with a 6-3 win over Rice Lake, but took a 2-1 loss to the Webster/Siren co-op in the second around.

They won the 3rd place game 4-1 over Hayward.

Middleton moved up to #8 from #10 last week despite not playing any games, likely due to voters taking note of their strong showing in the two computerized rankings.

Waupaca dropped from #8 to #9 despite not playing any games last week. But they have four games this week to make up the lost ground.

Green Bay United rounds out the Top Ten.  The Gryphons took the DC Everest Holiday Tournament last week. They opened with a 3-1 over Tomahawk and followed with a 3-2 win over Honorable Mention Oregon in the second round.

They capped off the tournament with a 4-2 over Waunakee.
