In his two years donning the green Regis/McDonell/Bloomer co-op jersey, Phil Erickson could do what he wanted on the ice.
He used his prolific skating to weave between defensemen and his skills with the stick to sneak the puck past nearly every goaltender he faced. By the time he left to pursue juniors after his sophomore year, Erickson had 59 goals and 72 assists while helping lead the Saints to back to back sectional final appearances in 2013 and 2014.
Three seasons later, after playing the previous two against like-minded players who challenged him in ways he hadn’t been in high school, Erickson has been able to zero in on just what exactly makes him a high-caliber hockey player.
“In high school, I was able to play a lot, and I think I was really able to work on my offensive game, but what I kind of learned is that the offensive stuff isn’t always going to get you places,” he said. “I think I bring a good mix of skill and physicality to the ice.”
