DC Everest Holiday Tournament

The Waunakee Warriors and DC Everest Evergreens squared off in the second round of the DC Everest Holiday Tournament.  An aggressive pace and seven power plays weren’t enough to separate the teams though and they finished knotted at 1.

The Warriors prevailed in a shootout to advance to the championship of the DC Everest Holiday Tournament.

Waunakee opened the scoring at 14:55 in the first period. Jay Croop took a feed from Blake Anderson at the top of the left faceoff circle and fired a shot through a screen and past Everest goalie Jared Enkers.

Everest evened the score at 6:51 in the second period.  Jacob Daigle took a feed from Brandon Dively and fired a shot on goal from just inside the blue line.  The shot pasted through a good Everest screen and past Warrior goalie Mitch Horras.

There was no more scoring after that, and the game got more physical with neither team wanting to give up an edge.  After regulation they played an eight minute overtime, and both teams put five shots on net, but none were high quality scoring chances and the game ended with a tie.

The teams advanced to a shootout to determine who moved on in the tournament.  Waunakee’s first shooter, freshman defenseman Keegan Ford scored first for Waunkee.  Derek Straus put the Warriors up 2-0 in the shootout before Jim Slogar found the back of the net for Everest.  Unfortunately for the Evergreens it was their only shootout goal and Waunakee’s Jason Ford scored Waunakee’s third shootout goal and locked in their advance.

Waunakee opened the tournament with a 6-2 win over Chequamagon/Phillips and will advance to the championship game against Green Bay United. Everest opened with a 3-2 win over Lakeland and will face off with Oregon in the third place game.
