DC Everest Holiday Tournament

The Lakeland Thunderbirds snapped a four game losing streak by beating Chequamegon/Phillips in the second game of the consolation round at the DC Everest Holiday Tournament on Tuesday.

Chequamegon got on the board first with 9:51 left in the first period when Josh Lemke advanced the puck into Jake Lemke in the offensive zone, and Jake sent it to Zachary Lemke for a one-time goal.

Unfortunately for Chequamegon, it was all Lakeland from there on.  The Thunderbirds added two goals in the first period, both off the stick of Jared Dern, who has wracked up 17 points in 9 games.

Dern added an assist in the second period with a nice feed to AJ Oungst  to put Lakeland ahead 3-1.  Lakeland added their fourth and final goal with 5:35 left in the final period when Bruno Borowczyk scored on a feed from Jared Suter.

Rory Will had a strong game in net for the Thunderbirds, turning away 16 of 17 Chequamegon shots. Gavin Falk stopped 21 for Chequamegon in the loss.

The Thunderbirds advance to the consolation championship against Fond du Lac Springs on Wednesday. Chequamegon takes on Tomahawk on Wednesday in the 7th place game.
