The 2010-2011 season starts with an air of excitement, a fresh new look and several new faces for the co-op of Regis-McDonell-Bloomer Hockey.

“We’re energized about what lies ahead,” said new RMB Head Coach Guy Brown. “We have some great athletes and leaders in this locker room who are ready to work hard and determined to grow this program.”

Anchoring the line-up, RMB returns a small, but talented core of upper-classmen in McDonell senior Zach Elstran, Regis seniors Marco Ortiz and Gage Theisen, and Bloomer junior Jake Zwiefelhofer.  All four are credited with being a big part of the program’s development over past years, and they will be relied upon heavily to take significant leadership roles in grooming what is a very young cast of supporting teammates.

“We’ll need our upperclassmen and returning players to lead by example,” said Brown, “and we’ll look to our new players to consistently chip in and make a difference.”

Valuable returning sophomores Donald Loew and Ryan Liddell of McDonell and Regis’s Joe Konzen and Sam Kitzberger are returning lettermen that will be flanked by a pair of talented players with varsity experience in transfers Garrett Nowak and net minder Sam Nelson.  Much will be asked of this sophomore class in order to compete against a beefed up schedule.

The RMB roster will boast one of their largest classes of freshman in quite some time, registering 6 Regis and 1 Bloomer freshmen this year that will look to put their stamp on the program. All 7 will be asked to log sizable minutes while contributing in both ends of the ice.

In addition to their normal independent schedule this year, RMB will take the ice twice in Minnesota against Owatonna and perennial power Shattuck-St. Mary’s, rounding out their early season schedule with Wisconsin preseason # 6 Stoughton.  All that, within the first 3 weeks of the new season.

Coach Brown notes, “Although we face a very strong test with our early season schedule, we hope this will serve as a good gauge of our development and give us a better sense of where we need to keep improving.  We’re excited about the direction of RMB Hockey.”

Joining Head Coach Guy Brown in his freshman campaign at RMB are Assistants Kevin Hickey, Todd Dunn and Erik Raygor.  The puck drops on the new season with the team’s first tilt slated for November 23rd in Chippewa Falls
