BELOIT — In Beloit, Mark Edwards may as well have been born with the last name Gretzky.

Both last names are synonymous with hockey.

The rink in Beloit reflects it, bearing the name of the family patriarch, Jerry Edwards.

His sons began lacing up their skates not much later than they could walk and Mark Edwards eventually went from scoring goals for Beloit Memorial High School to playing for the University of Wisconsin.

Edwards will be inducted into the Beloit Historical Society’s Sports Elliott-Perring Hall of Fame June 9 at La Casa Grande Banquet Hall in downtown Beloit.
