As the only sophomore to make the all-area hockey team last season, Ian Malcolmson had some expectations to live up to.

The Waukesha West junior definitely did, and as a result has been selected as the Journal Sentinel area player of the year.

"Everybody knows that he was a really talented player," Waukesha co-op coach Raja Aylsworth said. "Some people, when they have that spotlight on them and they're getting that extra attention from other teams, they have a hard time filling expectations — or perceived expectations, anyway.

"He ran with it. Everybody knew he was coming and he still managed to do what he needed to do."
