The Omni Center was packed with fans from Wisconsin Rapids and Onalaska as the top two seeds in sectional four prepared to play for the right to play at the Alliant Energy Center.  Excitement was enhanced by a live rendition of the National Anthem.

The teams took to the ice and pace was frantic from the dropping of the opening puck.  Both teams took the advantage of opportunities to advance the puck up the ice.  Onalaska was able to find the back of the net at the 11:00 minute mark of the first period, when Jacob Dirks was able to score with an assist from Ty Ebner.  Wisconsin Rapids tried to counter and tie the game with a scrum in front of Weiner, but Onalaska managed to clear the puck to keep their 1 goal lead.  The Hilltoppers pushed their lead to two with 2:14 remaining in the period as Alex Buswell and Austin Manglitz assisted on a goal by Sam Dabrowski. Both teams continued to keep applying pressure, but no one was able to score for the rest of the first period. Onalaska's Hayes Weiner finished the first period with 8 saves, while Tanner Reany had 10 saves for Wisconsin Rapids.

The second period felt to have been swinging in the favor of Wisconsin Rapids as they were on the offensive attack.  They finally slipped the puck past Onalaska's Weiner at 11:10 of the period.  The goal was scored by Tyler Blaes and assisted by Jared Sawyer cutting the Hilltopper lead to 1. The fast pace continued for the period and found the first penalty of the game called with 1:37 left on the clock.  Ty Ebner of Onalaska was called for slashing and put Wisconsin Rapids on the power play.  The second came to an end with the score remaining 2-1 in Onalaska's favor.  Reany made 9 saves in the period for Rapids for a two period total of 19.  Weiner had 9 saves for the Hilltoppers for a two period total of 17.

Onalaska's Ty Ebner bumped the score to 3-2, when he took through 3 Rapids players and put it in the net at 2:47 of the third period.  Wisconsin Rapids cut the lead to 1 with 8:25 remaining by taking advantage of a Hilltopper turnover.  Cody Kohls scored with an assist from Tanner Case.  Rapids battled, but was unable to tie the game and Onalaska advances to the state tournament to represent Sectional Four.
