Kobs' late goal ties game, sets up late heroics

The Janesville Bluebirds hosted KMMO Thursday night in Janesville.
Last year the Bluebirds faced KMMO in the Section 7 final and rolled
to an easy win and punched their ticket to Madison.

This time the game was closer.

In fact it was so close 51 minutes wasn't enough to decide who moves on
to the sectional semis.

Jack MacDougall punched home a rebound shot to give Janesville a 4-3
overtime win in the section 7 regional final. MacDougall a senior was playing his last game on home ice in his high school career made his last shift count.

Janesville got the scoring started in the first period on Ben Coulter's
power play goal. With Coulter parked in front of the net Nolan Frederick found him from behind the net and got him the puck that he put past KMMO goalie Paul
McLean for the early 1-0 lead.

KMMO came back in the second period to get the score even on a power play score by Henry Ersbo. Ty Perkins got Janesville back on top for a 2-1 lead. But KMMO
struck with under a minute left in the second period. While short handed they got the puck ahead to Sam Delaney. Delaney while driving the netwith defenders on him was able to get the puck past Jack Bostedt for a tie at 2 apiece.

At the end of the second period Janesville was given a roughing penalty that would start at the beginning of the third period. KMMO was able to take the lead early in
the first minute of the period for a 3-2 lead on a Delaney goal.

The game was a real battle all the period but KMMO was still holding on. After Janesville and KMMO used their time outs late in the period, Janesville was able to get the extra attacker on the ice with under a minute to go. Off a faceoff the Bluebirds were able to get in the zone. After two prime chances denied by McLean, finally Kyler Kobs was able to bat one in the net for a tie game with 24 seconds left.

With overtime required Janesville took a few shots but missed the net and KMMO was able to get a shot on net. Finally with just over 2 minutes left Jack MacDougall was able to get a shot off. With a rebound he was able to catch a sliding McLean going
left. MacDougall shot right side and the puck was in the net for the game winner. After the goal MacDougall was mobbed by teammates while KMMO was shocked to see the end to their season.

Paul McLean finished with 18 saves in the game while Janesville's Jack Bostedt had 22.

Janesville moves on to play number 2 seed Milwaukee Marquette Tuesday at Eble Ice. Marquette was a 1-0 winner over Greendale.

KMMO ends the season 8-16.
