Quick goals carry Black River Falls

The game started off quickly with the Sun Prairie Cougars applying pressure, but the Tigers countered with some rushes of their own.  The play continued going back and forth, but the Cougars were getting shots on goal and the Tigers shots were inaccurate to start the game.  Sun Prairie’s Kendra Sanderfoot was able to score from in front of the net with Taylor Shaw and Margo Thousand assisting at 6:54 of the first.  The period came to an end as Olivia Waddell fired a shot on Taylor Thornton just prior to the horn sounding.  Mollie Lelonek had 14 saves for the Tigers, while Thornton had 7 saves for Sun Prairie.

The second period got started with a bang as the Tigers’ Abbie Johnson scored 14 seconds in with an assist from Ashley Overlien.  Black River Falls took the lead 39 seconds later on a goal by Khloe Spors with Kacie Suchanek and Taylor Gular being credited with assists.  Sun Prairie came back and tied the game at 4:05 as Jada Ward and Arianna Marshman assisted on Alexis Kurt’s goal.  The Cougars regained the lead at 7:29 of the second on a goal by Maria Griffiths with Ward and Marshman assisting.  Thornton had 8 saves in the period, while her counterpart Lelonek had 5 saves.

Once again the Tigers score quickly in the period.  This time it took 13 seconds for Abbie Johnson to score with assists being credited to Overlien and Kaytlin Johnson.  The teams battled up and down the ice for the rest of the period.  The Tigers Baleigh Johnson put the game winner in the net with 12.2 seconds remaining with Abbie Johnson and Overlien assisting.  Lelonek finished the game with 28 saves, while Thornton had 29.
