Like many young skaters in Rice Lake, Kole Sommerfeld grew up idolizing Josh Engel, the town and school’s most decorated hockey alum who played four years with Wisconsin before enjoying a four-year pro career.

Now, that same person who hoisted the 2006 national championship trophy as a member of the Badgers and former ECHL and AHL player is back coaching the same kids he has served as a role model for. In his first year at the helm, Engel has the Warriors as a No. 5 seed in the New Richmond Sectional and all set to travel to No. 4 seed Menomonie Thursday night.
