Late rally by Warhawks comes up short

The WiPH Game of the Week featured a non conference matchup as the Arrowhead Warhawks hosted the Waupun Warriors. The Warriors used a strong showing by senior forward Jordan Foster with 4 goals and a strong outing by goalie Caleb Sauer with 33 saves in a 4-3 win Friday night at the Mullet Center in Hartland.

Waupun got the scoring started as they were able to poke the puck out of their zone. Jordan Foster beat the defense back and shot stick side high on Aaron Nicholson for the goal.

The second Waupun goal was scored when Foster was able to pick up a loose puck at the right circle in the Warhawk zone and spun a quick shot at the net which got past Nicholson.

Arrowhead did break thru late in the first period. With under a minute to go on a power play they got the puck to the net and were able to get it past Caleb Sauer for a 2-1 deficit with the goal credited to Jaxson Carr.

The second period saw the two teams trade goal. First Foster finished his hat trick on the power play with a loose puck in front he won a battle and scored. But Arrowhead kept it close in this very physical second period and got within one again when Jack Shlinsog got a feed in the slot and went high on Sauer for the goal with 7:14 left in the second period.

The third period saw goal number 4 be the ultimate game winner as Foster once again got a puck in the offensive zone and did a nice toe drag move and snapped a shot into the net for a 4-2 Waupun lead.

Arrowhead kept the pressure on and with just over a minute left made it a one goal game at 4-3. The goal was scored on a shot taken by Elijah Tormala that was redirected by Jon Daury into the net.

Both teams used their timeouts in the final 1:04 but Arrowhead couldn't get the puck thru the middle of a clogged up neutral zone and Waupun picked up their 15th win of the season.

The game totals had 25 saves for Arrowhead between Nicholson and JJ Gerlach.

Waupun also had a three assist performance by Cody Kast.

Arrowhead's season record is now 12-6 with losses in 5 of the last 6 games.

Waupun now is 15-4 and has won 5 of their last 6 games.
