The title of “Pines Classic Champions” was on the line today at the historic ERRA Dome between the University School of Milwaukee Wildcats and the Mosinee Indians. The game was so closely matched that it went into overtime before USM scored to take home the title for the fourth year in a row.

Bryce Graveen gave Mosinee an early lead in the first period and it looked like it would carry over to the second period until Jake Kandel scored a power play goal, sending the puck over Zach Bednar’s left side to tie up the game 1-1 with 28 seconds left in the period.

Time was winding down in the middle period when USM took the lead of the game. Logan Geisness took the puck from the face-off and sent it over to Nick Epperson at the edge of the circles to give USM a one goal advantage.

Zeth Pyan of Mosinee matched Epperson’s tally with 39 seconds left on the clock. Landon Stepan passed the puck to Pyan before Pyan fired the puck at Mac Schmidt, hitting the pipe and  tying the game at two goals apiece.

USM fired 12 shots at Bednar in the third period but was unable to get the puck past him. At the other end of the ice, Mac Schmidt saved all three shots against him, sending the game into over time.

It only took Brandon McGill one minute and sixteen seconds in the bonus period to score a goal, shooting the puck from the middle to give the Wildcat’s a 3-2 win as they became the champions of the Pines Classic Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
