Appleton United wins crown, stays unbeaten

Appleton United defeated Mosinee 6-3 Saturday night to win the 18th annual Community Parks Holiday tournament at the K.B. Willett Arena.

United (15-0) scored five goals in the first period before Mosinee scored two in the second to cut the lead to 5-2.

Nathan Zilisch scored a hat trick for AU, while Trenton Bliss added a pair of goals.

United outshot Mosinee (7-6) by a tally of 40-18. Dylan Phinney made 15 stops for United, while Zach Bednar had 34 saves for Mosinee.

Stevens Point blanked Waupaca 5-0 to take the consolation title in the Community Parks Holiday tourney Saturday evening at the K.B. Willett Arena.

The Panthers (7-4) scored four times in the second period to put the game out of reach.

Brock Caufield led the Panthers with one goal and a playmaker, while younger brother Cole had a goal and two assists.

Goaltender Phil Trzebiatowski had a ten save shutout and added a pair of assists.

Waupaca goalie Walker Smith made 36 saves, as the Comets slipped to 5-8 on the year.
