Elkin, Kraus, and Grishaber lead the way for NHM

Alec Elkin, Jack Kraus, and Carter Grishaber lead the Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha Rockets in scoring this season. The trio combined for all the NHM scoring in a 4-3 win over the visiting Bay port Pirates Friday night at the Tri County Ice Arena.

Bay Port scored first when Matt Minch dropped down from his defensive post and took a pass from Dakota Tiller while parked at the back door.

The Pirates doubled their lead late in the first period with a goal by Jordan Odea. The Rockets turned the puck over in the neutral zone and Odea got the puck from Austin Mikesch behind the NHM defense and skated in and beat Rockets’ goalie Preston Long.

Shots on goal were even at six each in the first period. Trenton LeDocq stopped all of them for Bay Port.

Neenah scored early in the second period while on the power play. Carter Grishaber buried the puck off some nifty passing by Alec Elkin and Jack Kraus.

Bay Port reclaimed their two goal lead with three and a half minutes to play in the second period. Spencer Challe knocked home a rebound of a point shot taken by Minch.

Jack Kraus started the Rockets rally by scoring on a power play when he took a hard wrist shot from just inside the blue line that made its way through traffic in front of the net and got by LeDocq before he even saw it.

Alec Elkin tied the game for NHM with just 32 seconds to go in the second period, assisted by Kraus.

Carter Grishaber gave the Rockets the lead with a short-handed goal early in the third period when he stole the puck from the Pirates defense in the neutral zone and skated in to beat Ledocq.

The NHM defense clamped down for the remainder of the game, limiting the Pirates to one shot on goal in the final period.
