Eagles need overtime to defeat Red Panthers

Five different players score goals

It seems every team has an opponent which brings out their best. Northland Pines seems to be the opponent which makes Point-Rapids/Marshfield play their best hockey.  The Eagles and Red Panthers opened up their play in the Culver's Cup against each other battling to the end.

The Eagles were able to get on the board first at 2:50 of the opening period, when Natalie Decker slipped the puck past Maddie Hall with an assist from Mariah Miller and Amanda Sergent.  The Red Panthers answered with a goal of their own at 9:36 as Molly Meyers put the puck in the net.  Point-Rapids/Marshfield took the lead at 14:11 of the first period on a goal by Kendra Robinson assisted by Hailey Ehr.  Jenna Paez had 4 saves in the period for Northland Pines, while Maddie Hall had 3 saves for the Red Panthers.

The Eagles tied the game 7:45 of the second.  The Red Panthers fired the puck from just inside the blue line on their offensive end.  Anna Hartwig blocked the shot with her shin guards, picked up the puck and went the length of the ice to score.  Paez had to withstand a flurry of shots at the end of the second to keep the game tied at 2.  Hall had 6 saves in the period and Paez had 10.

Neither team was able to score in the third, but the first penalty of the game was called on Megan Nolan of the Red Panthers with 5.2 seconds remaining in regulation.  Paez had 5 saves in the period and Hall had 6 saves.

The Eagles attacked quickly in the overtime and never let the puck leave their offensive zone.  Amanda Sergent scored a power play goal at 1:33 with Natalie Deck and Haven Stetzel assisting on the play.  Hall had 5 saves in the period.
