Emberson cleared to rejoin Old Abes after Youth Olympics

For about a week, the rallying cry around Eau Claire and the Wisconsin prep hockey community became “Let Ty play.”

Now, it’s simply “Ty will play.”

Tuesday, the WIAA cleared Eau Claire Memorial sophomore defender Ty Emberson, who made the roster for Team USA in the Youth Olympic Games on Feb. 12-22 in Lillehammer, Norway, to be able to play in the playoffs for the Old Abes once he returns.

Under current WIAA rules, which member institutions voted on, Emberson wouldn’t have been able to play because of the footnote in the school loyalty clause that there are no waivers for postseason play. Emberson’s father, Mike, asked for a waiver because of the “unprecedented” circumstances with this being an Olympic-sanctioned event.
