Strong effort by Goss comes up short

The Milton Red Hawks knew coming into Friday nights game against the Eastside Lakers they were gonna catch a team playing its third game in four nights. In those games the Lakers were outscored 23-0 and outshot by a large margin.

It took awhile but Milton finally was able to break open a close game thru 2 periods and get a 4-1 win.

Milton was also having their own battle as well. With three guys out with injuries and a short bench as is, with a number of penalties whistled against them the bench became even shorter.

"I take my hat off to the kids they killed penalties well and gave up no goals on their power play", said Milton Coach Dennis Quinn. "Their goalie really kept Eastside in the game but 3 games in 4 nights we might've worn them down".

From the opening faceoff Eastside was shorthanded as they were penalized for a tripping penalty on the play. Milton put a lot of shots on net on first period power plays for them but got only one goal which was credited to Jack Fletcher and they had a 1-0 lead after a penalty filled first period. Milton outshot the Lakers 23-1 but only had a 1-0 lead.

Eastside goalie Sean Goss stopped a whopping 22 shots in the first period alone in a 52 save overall performance. Goss single handedly kept it a 1-0 Red Hawk lead after 2 periods as teams had players in and out of the box all second period.

" I thought Milton performed pretty well they got a lot of shots on me tonight", said Goss. "They are not the caliber of a Janesville or Verona who we played this week. but they are a very solid team".

In the third period the Lakers wore down and Milton went to work

The Lakers were down 1-0, but Milton essentially put it out of reach when Wrage Marzahl was able to flip a loose puck past Goss and tallied again on a short handed breakaway for a 3-1 Milton lead. Jacob Sundlin scored for the final goal for Milton. In a bright spot for the Lakers they got a late goal from Jake Syron who got around a defender and went 5 hole on Milton goalie Justin Burke who finshed the game with 6 saves.

"We've been struggling with third periods", said Goss "We spend a lot of time chasing in our zone and guys get so tired". Eastside remains winless on the season while Milton gets their second win of the season. The Lakers travel to Beloit on Tuesday, while Milton has a quick turnaround with a game at Sauk Prairie Saturday
