Thousand Leads Cougars to Victory

Two first period goals lead to win

Sun Prairie entered the game trying to keep pace with the Metro Lynx in the early part of the season in conference play and rebound from two losses to the St. Croix Valley Fusion.  The Badger Thunder were trying to rebound from an overtime loss to the Point-Rapids Red Panthers.

The Sun Prairie Cougars were able to get on the board first, when Margo Thousand scored an unassisted goal at 6:41 of the first period.  Thousand collected her second goal of the evening at 9:13 with an assist from Maria Griffiths.  The first period came to an end with the Cougars up 2-0.  Taylor Thornton had 6 saves for Sun Prairie, while Gabby Christensen had 11 saves for the Badger Thunder.

The excitement in the second period came with 7:48 remaining in the period, when a Badger Thunder penalty resulted in a penalty shot.  Jada Ward had the penalty shot opportunity, but was unable to get the puck past Gabby Christensen.  Neither team was able to score in the period.  However, the Badger Thunder out shot the Cougars 11 to 10.

The Cougars completed the scoring 7:23 of the third as Maria Griffiths scored with Jada Ward assisting on the play.  The Cougars defense turned it up a notch and held the Badger Thunder to one shot on goal in the period.  Taylor Thornton finished the game with 18 saves and a shutout, while Gabby Christensen had 30 saves.

The Badger Thunder will travel to Tomah to play Black River Falls at Mose Lamb Ice Arena on Thursday, December 3rd.  Both teams will be looking for their first victory this season.

Sun Prairie will host the Rock County Fury at Sun Prairie Ice Arena on Thursday, December 3rd.  The Fury will be trying to rebound from an overtime loss to the Metro Lynx.
