Peter Dale gets kids "Farm Tough" at his camp in Pewaukee

Turn onto the blacktop driveway off Lisbon Road in Pewaukee and it looks like you are entering the yard of a hobby farm. The road gently curves uphill and moves past the main house, which has a small in-ground pool just behind it.

Beyond that are three barns of varying sizes.

You might think you are at the wrong place, but when the owner walks out of the barn, you know you have arrived.

Welcome to Peter Dale's Farm, where you learn how to improve your game, learn how to eat properly, and become a better person.

This is where you get "Farm Tough."

Dale purchased the property from the parents of one of the players he had been training. When the father invited Peter out for a look at the facility, he was totally sold.

"I came out and saw this place and said 'it's the Hockey Farm.'"

The barns were overgrown and dirty and needed lots of work to get them whipped into shape.

"I strapped on a full-body suit and safety glasses and went in with a backpack leafblower and started blowing it out," recalls Dale with a laugh.

There are three barns, two of which are functional at this time.

The "loft barn" is insulated and heated and is "cardio central." The training equipment includes slide boards, a stride machine, spin bikes, and Russian Boxes.

The "big barn" is the main building for skills training. There are three shooting lanes, weight training equipment, a heavy punching bag, and ropes to help further strengthen the campers. The big barn is not heated and players wear sweatpants, sweatshirts, and hats to stave off the cold during the winter months.

"It's kind of like playing pond hockey," says Dale.

The third barn is not yet developed, but will eventually be used for a coaching training area and will also include an expanded workout training facility.

Dale expects to pour a concrete surface behind the big barn to build a 120' x 60' rink which can be used for team practices in the winter and as additional training space during the other three seasons.

There is also a 1/4 mile training trail which includes a hill for extra cardio work.

"This is not a fancy foo-foo workout place," says Dale. "It just has the 'Farm Tough' vibe."

Dale reiterates that his training sessions involve the whole person.

"My whole focus is always about creating positive long-term habits and that's the key. We're making them better people all the way around and that's a really cool thing.

"This is the real deal."
