Notre Dame Academy’s Max McCormick was named the American Family Insurance/Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association Player of the Year at an award ceremony held Wednesday evening at the Sheraton Madison Hotel.

The senior forward edged seven other finalists in voting conducted by members of the WHCA.

The other finalists were:

  • Brian Berger, Arrowhead
  • Russell Blaser, Monona Grove
  • Brian Kemp, Fond du Lac
  • Nolan Kirley, Hayward
  • Derek Knetter, Wausau West
  • Tony Kujava, Notre Dame Academy
  • Tanner Tryggestad, Amery

McCormick–who has scored 71 points this season (34g-37a)–hopes to improve on those numbers as he and Kujava lead the Tritons in their first state tournament appearance as they face Madison Edgewood in Thursday’s final quarterfinal match-up.
