Team Wisconsin in their opening game of the 2010 Minnesota High school Hockey National Invitational battled but in the end suffered a 3-2 loss to the host Minnesota.

Wisconsin was first to score in the game as Max McCormick made the Minnesota defense pay. Pinching in too deep, Nathan Trannel and McCormick went the other way with a loose puck and McCormick finished with the goal and the 1-0 lead with 7:28 left in the first period.

But that was the last lead TW would have. Minnesota got it tied on the power play in the first on a slapshot by Joe Rubbelke from the slot. Minnesota untied it quickly. 16 seconds later they took the lead on a wrister from along the goal line by Lucas Gervais that snuck just within the far post for a 2-1- lead after one period.

TW did get things even on a beautiful goal by Dylan Dock. With his linemates on an odd man rush, Dock was able to finish the tic-tac-toe passing with a goal for a tie at 2.

Minnesota scored their winning goal on the power play. With Brian Kemp off for a hook Minnestoa scored nine seconds into the man advantage for a 3-2 lead with 10:59 left in period two.

Wisconsin had a golden chance to get the game tied late in the period. With a 5 on 3 advantage for over a minute fifty, TW could not get it tied and watched a rally tick away, as in the third period Minnesota goalie Aaron Davis stopped everything Wisconsin had for the 3-2 win.

Minnesota combined a pair of goalies for 25 saves, while TW’s Mark Lambrecht played very well in a 30 save performance.
