The Janesville Bluebirds broke open a 2-2 game and scored the final 5 goals to defeat KMMO 7-2 in the Section 7 final Saturday at Wilson Park.. Janesville will now move to the State Quarterfinals Thursday to play perennial power Superior.

"This was our goal to make it to the sectional Final and beyond", said Bluebird goalie Jessie Heisz. "Our goal was to get pucks to the net and play sound defense."

And they got that plan off running early as Tyler Perkins scored his first of his hat trick when he tipped a shot fr JT Smithback past KMMO goalie Paul McLean for the early lead. KMMO came back on the power play and got a goal from Connor Freeman as he rushed the puck up the left side and used a screen to go wide side for the tying goal.

With under two minutes left in the period the teams traded goals. Janesville scored when Sam Iverson scored, but seconds later KMMO would tie it again when Alex Manske found a loose puck and tapped in the puck for a tie after the first period.

Janesville then scored three times in the second to be up 5-2 after two frames. First Connor Perkins scored a power play goal on a drop pass from Harry Henschler, and then Ty Perkins scored his second on a big blast. Henschler would score the next one for the three goal lead thru two periods.

KMMO would start to push back early in the third period when Jessie Heisz came up with three quick saves, and watched as his mates would score on the rush the other way and finished with Ty Perkins getting the hat trick goal. Janesville would finish off the scoring on a goal by Cullen Schumacher and when the clock hit zero the celebration was on. "Our goal early in the season was to make it to the Sectional Final and beyond", said Heisz.

Coach John Mauermann was very happy with what he saw. "We played with a lead the whole night. Whenever they would tie it up we had an answer". "We could have had our heads down but we came right back ".
