Trio of quick second period goals kickstarts CWS

Kelly Knetter scored three times and Teagan Tretter added a goal and an assist to lead the Central Wisconsin Storm past the Point-Rapids Red Panthers 6-1 Friday night at the K.B. Willett Arena.

The first period was scoreless, with the Storm holding a 10-4 shot edge in the opening stanza.

The Storm scored three times in a span of 3:22 early in the middle period, with Tretter scoring on a rebound during a scrum in front of the net at 2:22 to start things off.

Just over a minute later, Knetter scored her first goal from the slot on a shot that bounced off goalie Merina Chappel's glove to make it 2-0.

Two minutes later, Knetter scored from the left circle to make it 3-0.

Chappel came out midway through the period in favor of senior Emily Bubla, which had been Coach Rachael Graves' plan before the game.

Bubla stopped all nine shots in the period to keep the game at 3-0. The Storm held a huge 17-1 shot edge in the period.

The Storm scored two minutes into the third period on a nice backdoor pass from Elizabeth Bauer to Katelyn Ramthun to make it 4-0.

Central Wisconsin tacked on another goal on an Emelia Edmondson rebound with just under seven minutes left for the 5-0 margin.

The Red Panthers got their lone hurrah on a nice bustout goal by senior Hannah Beilke. She skated free down the right side and fired a shot past goalie Renee Hosler from the low right circle for the home team's only goal.

Knetter buried a rebound with 53 seconds left to account for the final of 6-1.

Shots were 20-4 in favor of the Storm in the period.

Hosler stopped eights shots in the win for the Storm, who improved to 15-6-1, including five straight victories.

Chappel (15) and Bubla (26) combined for 41 stops for the Red Panthers (5-13-3).
