Bestul posts 35 saves in win

The WiPH Girls Game of the Week featured the Hayward/Spooner Hurricanes a team which had been entrenched in the top three all season and the ECA Stars.  The Stars are a team which have improved throughout the season and are playing their best hockey as the playoffs approach.

The first period found the Hurricanes applying the pressure and they were able to convert a turnover in neutral ice into a goal at 8:46 of the first.  Sarah Pearson stole a pass just outside the Stars' defensive zone and skated it in to the right of Stars' goaltender, Miranda Bestul.  Pearson passed the puck to Amber Heidenreich.  Heidenreich's shot found the back of the net to put Hayward up 1-0. The period found the Hurricanes' Jenna Curtis picking up a penalty for body checking with 3 minutes left. The Stars' Lauren Larson was accessed a penalty for tripping with 1:57 remaining in the first.  Twenty-two seconds later ECA's Layne Erickson joined Larson in the sin bin for body checking.

The second period started with the Stars down two people, but they killed of the penalties.  ECA tied the game 3:18 of the second, when Dani Mestelle picked up a rebound in front of the Hurricanes' goalie, Lauren Tremblay, and placed it in the net.  The Hurricanes' Ema Dieckman went to the penalty box for slashing with 12:38 on the clock.  Freshman Abigail Stow took advantage of the power play and scored an unassisted goal at 5:19 of the period.  The Stars' had to kill off another penalty with 3:19 left in the second, when they were called for "too many players on the ice".  Unfortunately for Hayward, they were unable to capitalize on the power play.  The period concluded with the Stars leading 2-1.

The third period saw both teams apply pressure, but there was neither team was able to score.  ECA Stars pick up a huge 2-1 win on the eve of sectional seeding meetings
