Friday night the Stars ...

Wednesday, January 9 – The Ponds of Brookfield

Friday night the Stars dropped the puck against the Glendale Ice Force, their second divisional matchup this week. Both teams used the first period to test each other as there were notable scoring chances, solid checking, and good saves made by each net minder. As the buzzer sounded, the game was locked in a 0 - 0 tie. At 12:45 of the second period, Glendale opened the scoring and took a 1 - 0 lead. However less than a minute later, Catholic Memorial’s Patrick McKnight handled a turnover, rumbled in on net and blew a 25 foot howitzer through the  left side to even the score 1 – 1, closing out the period's scoring. McKnight (Z. Davis) tallied once again 17 seconds into the third period to hand the Stars their first lead of the game 2 - 1.  Later in the period, with two goals and a number of big hits to his credit, McKnight (Mikelonis) capped off his night with a hatrick at 11:21 as he slipped in another goal to stretch the lead 3 - 1. In the final minute, Glendale pulled their goalie and added an extra attacker but Nick Davis and the defense were up to the task and assured the Stars picked up 2 points in the standings.
