Breakaway Blast Difference In Win

The Janesville Bluebirds met up with the Brookfield /CMH Stars in the Joe Raymond Tournament Today. Both teams were coming off tough losses the day before.

The Bluebirds were on the board in the first minute when Nolan Steig was able to get the puck ahead to Harry Henschler. He then split two players and went in alone on Brookfield/CMH netminder and scored to get the first lead of the game. Janesville led 1-0 after the first period.

Brookfield /CMH got the game tied in the second period on a very strange goal. The Stars dumped the puck from inside their blue line to the Janesville zone on net. Goalie Jesse Heisz went down to stop the puck, but it seemed to skip and disappear between his pads and into the net for a tie at 1 apiece.

The goal was credited to Eric Sinson.

The Stars kept pressure on later in the second period and took the lead when Janesville turned over the puck and the Stars found a wide open Neal Mikelonis for an easy chip in for the lead.

Janesville then tied it up shortly after that. Connor Perkins took a nice pass from Tyler Elliott and was able to work his way to the net and shot the puck past Nick Davis for the 2-2 tie.

The third period saw Henschler get the winning goal when on a breakaway he got mid slot and blasted a shot past Davis for the 3-2 lead for good. Brookfield/CMH were able to get the net minder pulled in the last minute but could not get the puck to go their way in a wild flurry.

Janesville goalie Jesse Heisz made 21 stops in the win while the Stars' Nick Davis made 20.
