Bubla stops 32 shots plus three in shootout

Red Panthers senior goalie Emily Bubla stopped all three shots in a shootout, while Megan Nolan slid one past Metro Lynx goalie Erin Webb to give Point-Rapids a hard-fought 3-2 'win' Saturday afternoon in the opening contest of the third annual girls Culvers Cup held at Madison Ice Arena.

(For official WIAA records, the game counts as a tie.)

The Red Panthers (2-5-1) got on the board first midway through the first period.

After Webb made the initial stop of a shot from the right circle, the puck bounced out to her left, where it was pounded back in by Kaylee Bruneau at the 7:42 mark, with Bryar Brooks and Nolan getting helpers on the play.

It would take nearly to the end of the period before the Lynx got the equalizer.

Junior Lizzy Conybear grabbed the loose biscuit in the NZ and set sail down the left side. She slipped past a Red Panther defenseman and fired a shot from the left circle that glanced off Bubla's left shoulder and into the twine for a 1-1 game at 15:37.

Shots were 10-7 in favor of the Lynx in the stanza.

The Red Panthers took the lead again early in the second, courtesy of a Lynx penalty.

With a half-minute remaining on the man-advantage, defenseman Hannah Beilke ripped a shot from the right point that bounced off the stick of a Lynx player and flew over the left shoulder of Webb at the 3:09 mark for the power play goal. Emily Exner was credited with an assist.

Six minutes later, the Lynx tied the game on a shot that bounced off the breezers of a Red Panther defender.

Samantha Dingle flipped a shot that hit off a defender and went past the Point-Rapids goalie to tie the game at the 9:40 mark. Julia Dragoo earned an assist on the play.
