The Northern Edge Opened the HodagLand Holiday Tournament with Gusto

The split-squad Northern Edge packed their leading scorers into the first half of the HodagLand Holiday Tournament and it paid off on Friday in an opening round rout of the WSFLG Blizzard.

The Blizzard had no answer for the Edge's top scorers who rolled to a 9-0 win.

It took just 50 second for the Edge to get on the board when Lauren Smith burried one past Bayzhia Taylor. Katie Detert and Lindsey Steger had assists on the play.

Detert put the Edge's second goal on the board at the tail end of a Blizzard power play to make it 2-0. Just 6:53 into the period and the Edge were up 3-0 after Taylor Trachte scored through traffic on a slap shot from the point.

Smith made it 4-0 on a backhander from the slot on a nice feed from Detert and Trachte ballooned the lead to five just a few minutes later on a feed from Steger and Gabby Millot.

Millot picked up the final tally of the first period on a breakaway. She missed the net wide right but picked up the deflection off the end boards and knocked it in.

The Edge added two more in the running-time second period. Trachte and Steger had the second period goals. The Blizzard switched to Mackenna Johnson after the first goal of the second period and she finished the game for them.

Detert picked up the only goal of the third period, 28 seconds into the Edge's first and only power play opportunity of the game. She fired a slap shot low and and through the legs of Johnson.

The Edge took the 9-0 win and out shot the Blizzard 47-5 in the contest. Shea Peterson earned the shutout for the Edge.
