Duckett tallies hattie against former teammates

Last year, the Red Panthers' Savannah Duckett was a teammate of several of the players on the Black River Falls team at the U14 level, playing on a combined BRF-Tomah squad.

Tonight, the Point-Rapids freshman forward scored three times in the first period to help the Red Panthers past the hosts 9-3 on a foggy evening two days before Christmas at the Milt Lunda Memorial Arena.

It appeared that the Red Panthers were going to run away with the game as they bolted to a 3-0 lead ten minutes into the opening stanza.

Duckett scored just over a minute into the contest and then added a power play goal three minutes later for a two-goal lead.

Hailey Ehr scored an unassisted goal in the middle of the period to extend the lead to 3-0 before the Tigers would dent the scoring column.

A few seconds later, a pair of Tigers skated in on a 2-on-1 odd-man rush and freshman Khloe Spors went high blocker to cut the lead to 3-1.

After a Tiger penalty, Duckett put back a rebound to give Point-Rapids a 4-1 lead.

Just when it looked like the guests were going to coast to the locker room with a three-goal lead, senior Destiny Muir deflated that idea with her rush down the right side.

She beat a defender and made the corner near the bottom of the right circle and flipped the puck over goalie Emily Bubla's left shoulder to make it 4-2 with 37 seconds left in the opener.

The home team held a 13-9 shot edge in the period.

The Red Panthers scored three times in the second and special teams played a part on the first goal.

Megan Nolan scored her first of two while on the PK to give Point-Rapids a 5-2 lead at 4:14 of the second.

Just under a minute later, Carolyn Storch grabbed a loose puck in the NZ and skated down the slot, beating BRF goalie Semra Sipahioglu five-hole to make it 6-2 and end the goalie's night. She finished with six saves.

Mollie Lelonek came on in net for the Tigers.

Midway through the middle period, Bear Herndon grabbed a loose puck in the slot and put it in the net to end the period scoring, giving the visitors a 7-2 lead.

Shots were 12-10 in the period, advantage BRF.

The game went to run-time three minutes into the final period on Nolan's second and third effort goal. She took the first shot, grabbed the rebound and put up a second, but finally realized success with her third shot to make the score 8-2.

A few minutes later, Muir's shot from the low left circle beat Bubla high on the glove side to cut the lead to 8-3, but Ehr scored her second with just under three minutes left to account for the final tally.

Shots were 8-6 in the period, for the first time in favor of the guests.

Bubla earned the win with her 28-save effort for Point-Rapids, who improved to 2-5 on the season.

Sipahioglu (6) and Lelonek (12) combined for 18 stops for the Tigers, who dropped to 4-5 on the year.

Zoe Derks earned a playmaker for the Red Panthers with her three helpers, while Bryar Brooks returned to action for the first time since December 6 and was credited with a pair of assists.

Kaytlin Johnson had two assists for the Tigers.
