Junior scores twice in 3-1 win over Marshfield

Junior blueliner Hailey Ehr scored the first goal and the last goal as the Point-Rapids Red Panthers scored a 3-1 win over rival Marshfield on a frigid Monday evening at the South Wood County Rec Center.

Ehr scored from the left circle on the first shot of the game to give Point-Rapids a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest.

Marshfield goalie Alexis Straughan became a wall the last fifteen minutes of the period, stopping all 14 shots fired at her as the home squad held a 1-0 lead after the first period. Shots were 15-2 in the period.

The Tigers tied the game in the middle of the second period.

Kessa Schreiner sent a pass ahead to Morgan Larson, who skated into the slot and sniped a shot past Red Panther goalie Merina Chappel at the 5:45 mark.

A couple minutes later, freshman Savannah Duckett scored from the top of the left circle for her first varsity goal to put Point-Rapids ahead 2-1, with an assist to Hannah Beilke.

Ehr closed out the scoring at the 11:48 mark of the period with a power play goal from the high slot on a pass from Bryar Brooks.

The Red Panthers once again outshot the guests, by a 15-6 count in the middle period.

Marshfield dominated the final period, but despite 14 shots and two power play chances, were unable to put the puck in the net in the final 17 minutes.

Chappel stopped 21 shots in the victory, while Straughan made 36 saves for Marshfield.
