First year Coach ready to get Milton's Inaugural Season Going

The Milton Red Hawks Head Coach Dennis Quinn is new to the WIAA, but is no stranger to coaching.

The Rock County Raptors, a WAHA Midget team,  enjoyed a lot of success under the coaching of Quinn in his two-year tenure. But opportunity came knocking last spring and Quinn felt the time was right to take over a WIAA program.

So how different can it be?

"It's a lot different," said Quinn. "This is a school-based, community-based out of Milton. One big thing is being involved in every decision, from ice time to jerseys, locker room details and so on."

One of the other things Quinn had to find out is who is going to represent Milton High in the inaugural season.

The WIAA allows five contact days in the summer and Quinn used it to find out who his players are, and their hockey sense. He also used the time during Janesville Youth Hockey tryouts to see what players are coming in the future.

Quinn came up through Beloit Youth Hockey, graduating in 2005 and getting his college degree in education from Robert Morris University.

So a Beloit guy working with Janesville Youth Hockey?

"Actually I am getting it from both sides, but I'm getting more of it from being associated with Milton," he chuckled. "But it's been an easy transition."

Milton will be calling the Mandt Ice Center in Stoughton home for possibly a few seasons. And they will be playing in the Badger South Conference.

"The non-conference part of the schedule, we've got games that we match up with (other teams well)."

Fittingly, the Red Hawks' first game will be in Beloit, where it all began for Quinn.
