Wausau West hockey coach Pete Susens, the state's all-time winningest coach, is retiring after 36 years.

Susens sent a personal message to a select few that included sports director Dale Ryman. In it he said, "I will be retiring from teaching and coaching at Wausau West at the end of this school year. It has been a good run and it has been a pleasure working with you."

In 36 years as a hockey head coach, all at Wausau West, Susens compiled a record of 573-233-25. The 573 wins is a state record. In 2012, he was inducted into the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame.
